This week I met with Mrs. Jackie Williams.  During my time with Mrs. Jackie we researched grants that I could use for my grant proposal and decided on a Book Mobile Grant.  Mrs. Jackie stated that this would be a good grant both for my grant proposal as well as for the elementary school, especially during school breaks and the Summer.  She talked about how important it is for students to have access to library books year round and how a book mobile can make that a reality.  She emphasized that although there is a public library available to students during school closures, many students and their families lack transportation to the public library either because they live in a different town or they just don't have access to transportation readily available.   The Bookmobile Grant Program that we found is through The Lois Lenski Covey Foundation.  The foundation is based in Sacramento, California and the applications become available in February a...

Week 5: September 21, 2022 - Fall Semester 2022

This week I work on my Personal Learning Network. This task was very informative and I found good websites, blogs, podcasts, and videos that in addition to the ones included in my PLN. I had never considered listening to podcasts or reading blogs related to the role of a school media specialist but looking through the various ones on the internet, there are some that I will be listening to and reading. While completing this task, I had to decide on which Web 2.0 tool to use to give the look that I wanted. I used Padlet to create my PLN. Although we are only required to post 2-3 resources for each category : blogs, social networking, podcasts, video or video series, websites, training materials, and professional articles, there were a lot of good sites and resources that could have been included in my PLN. https://padlet.com/kr06982/jz17vz56mru51v5

This week I visited my site supervisor, Mrs. Jackie Williams at the Early County Elementary School Library. During my visit, we talked about the Activities Report that I have to complete. Some of the activities that she does with students are Library Orientation for grades 2-5 and one First grade class. She also has Storytime with Kindergarten. The books that she has read so far this year are: The Wonky Donkey, Grumpy Bird, Do Not Bring Your Dragon to the Library, and Sticks. She stated that after storytime, there is usually an activity for the students to complete. I asked that she inform me of the next Storytime so that I can observe how she conducts it. Below are pictures of the covers of the books she has read and where she has Storytime in the Media Center.

This week I met with Mrs. Jackie Williams who is the Media Specialist for the elementary school library. We discussed the activities I have to complete during this semester and she also helped me find a grant for my Grant Proposal activity. The grant we decided on was for a book mobile which she believe would be great to have for our school system especially during school breaks and the summer. The grant is the Lois Lenski Covey Grant, . Mrs. Jackie sent me the link for me to look over and this would be a great grant to use for my proposal. She has also began doing activities with Kindergarten classes and below is a picture of one of the activites. New carpet was installed in the media center over the summer and during pre-planning, some teachers volunteered to help reshelve the book collection, so that it would be ready for students at the beginning of school. The computer area is mainly used classes during Georgia Milestone testing.
